Agate House

Agate House is a partially reconstructed Puebloan pueblo in Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona, built almost entirely of petrified wood laid in clay mortar in place of the sandstone-and-mortar masonry more typical of the area. The eight-room structure dates to about the year 900 and was occupied through 1200, during the Pueblo II and Pueblo III periods. The ruins were reconstructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933-34 under C. B. Cosgrove Jr of the New Mexico Laboratory of Anthropology: Room 7 was fully rebuilt with a new roof, Room 2's walls raised to five feet without a roof, and the remaining walls restored to a height of two or three feet.
