The Arboretum at Flagstaff is a 200-acre botanical garden on the west side of Flagstaff, Arizona, on Woody Mountain Road south of US Route 66. At 7,150 feet in elevation, it is among the highest-elevation public gardens in the United States, and holds 750 species of mostly drought-tolerant and native plants representative of the high-desert Colorado Plateau, including an extensive collection of the genus Penstemon. The site was originally forest and a working ranch, and was the home of Frances McAllister in the late 1960s; she donated the land and established the Arboretum's financial endowment in 1981. It is also home to the Merriam-Powell Research Station and the Southwest Experimental Garden Array.
