The Hall of Flame Museum of Firefighting, formally the National Historical Fire Foundation, is a museum in Phoenix, Arizona, dedicated to the preservation of firefighting equipment from around the world; its name plays on 'Hall of Fame'. Its collection began as the private holdings of George F. Getz Jr, who opened the original Hall of Flame in Wisconsin in 1961; it relocated to Phoenix in 1974 and has since grown into the world's largest historical firefighting museum, with more than ninety fully restored pieces of apparatus across almost an acre of exhibits. Five galleries display equipment grouped by era, from hand- and horse-drawn engines to motorised apparatus dating to 1968, alongside a smaller gallery on wildland firefighting. The museum also holds the National Firefighting Hall of Heroes, commemorating US firefighters killed in the line of duty or decorated for heroism, a video theatre, and a collection of fire-department patches, insurance marks and helmets. Some vehicles are taken out by volunteer operators for Phoenix-area parades and events. The museum stands at 6101 East Van Buren Street, across from the Phoenix Zoo and adjacent to the Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
