Agua Caliente is a place in Maricopa County, Arizona, on the border with Yuma County, north of the Gila River near Hyder. Father Jacob Sedelmayer named it Santa Maria del Agua Caliente in 1744, and Father Francisco Garces used the current short form in 1775. The name derives from the Spanish for hot water and comes from nearby hot springs, which the local Indigenous population had used. A resort was later established at the site of the springs.
