Oak Creek Canyon is a river gorge located in northern Arizona between the cities of Flagstaff and Sedona. The canyon is often described as a smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon because of its scenic beauty. State Route 89A enters the canyon on its north end via a series of hairpin turns before traversing the bottom of the canyon for about 13 miles (21 km) until the highway enters the town of Sedona.
A cliffside swimming hole on Oak Creek about two miles north of Sedona, shaded and cool enough that the Forest Service recommends it as a respite from the summer heat. Picnic tables and vault toilets, no drinking water, and no camping — it is day-use only, and a fee applies. Allen's Bend trail leaves the car park, running north towards Casner Canyon and south towards Huckaby.
The Schnebly Hill Formation is a section of red bed deposits found at the Colorado Plateau, near Sedona, Arizona. It is a dark red sandstone, from 800 feet (240 m) to 1,000 feet (300 m) thick. It lies between Coconino Sandstone and the older Hermit Formation.
The Devil's Kitchen Sinkhole is a sinkhole near Sedona, Arizona on the Soldier Pass Trail in the Coconino National Forest. Formed in the late 1880s, it is one of the at least seven sinkholes surrounding the city. The sinkhole is about 660 ft (200 m) deep but leads to a cave that adds 180 ft (55 m), for a total of 840 ft (260 m).
The Seven Sacred Pools are a group of small pools (tinajas) on the Coconino National Forest's Soldier Pass Trail, near Sedona, Arizona. They are easily accessible from the trail but are only available to be seen during certain times of the year, as the stream that feeds them is seasonal. The pools are carved into sandstone naturally.
