Tumamoc Hill, Cemamagĭ Doʼag in O'odham, is a butte immediately west of 'A' Mountain and downtown Tucson, in Pima County, Arizona. The 860-acre ecological reserve on the hill was established by the Carnegie Institution in 1903 and is a National Historic Landmark; the University of Arizona owns 340 acres of it and leases a further 509 acres as a research and education facility. The university's Desert Laboratory stands on the hill, as does a small astronomical observatory maintained by Steward Observatory with a 20-inch telescope. The hill also carries a number of radio, television and public safety transmitters, and is used for ecological and anthropological research as well as for recreation.
