Cochise is an unincorporated community in Cochise County, Arizona. It was created alongside the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 1880s and served chiefly as a stop where trains took on the coal and water they then needed. At its peak the town had a population of about 3,000; some 50 people live there now, and several historic buildings remain. Big Nose Kate, an associate of Doc Holliday, lived at Cochise in 1899, working at the Cochise Hotel after Holliday's death. The community uses the 85606 ZIP code, whose census tabulation area had 1,592 residents in 2000.
