The Verde Valley is a valley in central Arizona through which the Verde River runs. The Verde is one of Arizona's last free-flowing river systems; it provides habitat for fish and wildlife, fresh water for local agriculture, recreation for residents and visitors, and drinking water for more than two million people in the greater Phoenix area. The valley is overlooked by Mingus Mountain and the Mogollon Rim. It is one of three viticultural regions in Arizona and contains the Verde Valley AVA. Its Yavapai name is Matkʼamvaha and its Spanish name Valle Verde.
