The Grand Theatre in Douglas, Arizona, designed by M. Eugene Durfee, opened in 1919. Ginger Rogers, Anna Pavlova and John Philip Sousa were among the performers who appeared on its stage, and the building also housed a tea room, a candy store and a barbershop; it hosted stage productions, films and Douglas High School graduations before closing in 1958. Decades of neglect brought a collapsed roof and extensive water damage, and the theatre has since been listed on both the National Register of Historic Places, in 1976, and the endangered list of historic buildings requiring immediate attention. It remains under restoration to its original condition.
