Sunset Crater is a cinder cone north of Flagstaff, the youngest volcano in the San Francisco volcanic field near the San Francisco Peaks, and the central feature of Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. It erupted around 1085 CE. Trails cross the lava flows at its base; the cone itself is closed to climbing after erosion damage. It recorded 73,260 recreation visits in 2024.
