Ray

Ray is a ghost town in Pinal County, Arizona, known chiefly for the large copper mine there. The Ray mine was begun by the Ray Copper Company in 1882 and named after the sister of one of the miners, whose surname was Bullinger. The Copper Basin Railway ran through the town, and a newspaper, the Arizona Copper Camp, was published there from 1910 to 1920. In 1958 the Kennecott Mining Company founded Kearny as a planned community for the populations of Ray, Barcelona and Sonora, which the company's copper mine was about to envelop; relocation began that year.
