Phoenix Raceway is a 1 mi (1.6 km) dogleg oval track in Avondale, Arizona, United States. The track has held a variety of events since its opening in 1964, including NASCAR, IndyCar, and CART races. It has a seating capacity of 42,000 as of 2019.
The Salt River Valley is an extensive valley on the Salt River in central Arizona, which contains the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Although this geographic term still identifies the area, the name "Valley of the Sun" popularly replaced the usage starting in the early 1930s for purposes of boosterism. It officially opened on November 9, 1990 (Billy Joel was the venue's inaugural performer). The naming rights sponsor is Talking Stick Resort (the venue is not located on tribal land).
